నెల్లూరు (Nellore), భారతదేశం లోని ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్రంలో దక్షిణతీరప్రాంతపు అయిన శ్రీ పొట్టి శ్రీరాములు నెల్లూరు జిల్లా యొక్క ముఖ్య పట్టణము, మండలము, లోక్‌సభ, శాసన సభ నియోజక వర్గము కూడాను. నెల్లూరు వరి సాగుకు, ఆక్వా కల్చర్‌ కు ప్రసిద్ధి. ఈ నగరం పెన్నా నది ఒడ్డున ఉన్నది. ఇక్కడ ప్రాచీనమైన శ్రీ తల్పగిరి రంగనాధస్వామి వారి ఆలయం కలదు. ఇది ప్రపంచంలోనే ఉన్న మూడు రంగనాధ స్వామి దేవాలయాల్లో ఒకటి(మిగిలినవి శ్రీరంగం, శ్రీరంగపట్టణం). అంతేకాక ప్రాచీనమైన శ్రీ మూలస్థానేశ్వర స్వామి వారి దేవాలయం కూడా కలదు. రాష్టృంలో అత్యంత వేగంగా అభివ్రుద్ధి చెందుతున్న నగరాల్లో నెల్లూరు నగరం ఒకటి. జనాభా సుమారు 5 లక్షలు.

నెల్లూరుకు విక్రమసింహపురి అనే పేరు కూడా ఉంది. విక్రమసింహ మహావీర, మనుమసిద్ధి మహారాజు సింహపురి రాజధానిగా నెల్లూరు ప్రాంతాన్ని పరిపాలించాడు. మనుమసిద్ధి కాలంలో ఈ ప్రాంతం సస్యశ్యామలమై అత్యధిక వరి ధాన్యపు ఉత్పత్తితో విలసిల్లేది. అందుకే ఈ ప్రాంతానికి నెల్లి (తమిళ భాషలో వరి అని అర్ధం) అల్లా నెల్లివూరు అనే పేరు వచ్చింది. ఈ ప్రదేశ స్థలపురాణం, చరిత్రల ప్రకారం కాలక్రమంలో నెల్లివూరు=నెల్లూరుగా రూపాంతరం చెందింది. ఆంగ్లేయుల పరిపాలనా కాలంలో నెల్లూరు, ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్‌ లో ప్రముఖ విద్యా కేంద్రంగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందింది. పొట్టి శ్రీరాములు పేరుతో పిలవబడే నెల్లూరు జిల్లా, 1953 అక్టోబరు 1 దాకా సంయుక్త మద్రాసు రాష్ట్రం లో భాగంగా ఉన్నది. 1956 నవంబరు 1 న భాషాప్రయుక్తంగా రాష్ట్రాల పునర్విభజన జరిగినపుడు ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్‌ రాష్ట్రం లో భాగమైంది. ఈ నగరము లోని మూలాపేట ప్రాంతము అత్యంత పురాతన ప్రాశస్థి కలిగి ఉన్నది.
